Common Whirlpool Problems We Fix
Whirlpool appliances fail in patterns we have seen before. Knowing which part gives out first on your series shortens the diagnostic, and it keeps you from paying for a guess.
Cabrio washers (WTW7600, WTW8500, WTW8800) are famous for the UL code at year 5-8. The little actuator gear under the basket wears out first, and since it is one of the most common Whirlpool failures it is usually on hand, so most UL calls finish in one visit. If the tub bearing is going too, that is where we stop: we do not repair drum bearings, and we will tell you the washer has reached replacement instead of selling you a teardown.
F21 on a Duet front-loader means the water isn't leaving. The cause is almost always something IN the pump - coins, hair clips, a tiny sock - and less often the pump itself. We open the lower panel, clear the impeller, and only replace the pump when it actually tests bad. Same-day for most F21 calls in SF and Daly City.
F5E2 means the lid lock isn't latching - a 15-minute part swap. F7E1 means the motor speed sensor lost track of the rotor - we test the sensor and the wiring before deciding which one failed. Both usually finish in a single visit. These two codes sound scary on the display; neither is.
A Whirlpool dryer that spins but won't heat almost always blew its thermal fuse - and the fuse blew for a reason: lint, a crushed hose, or a marathon vent run. We replace the fuse, check the heating side, and inspect the whole vent path. A new fuse on a blocked vent dies within weeks, so we don't skip that step. Ever.
The 7-blink clean light (F8E1 on newer panels) means the dishwasher isn't getting enough water. Usually the inlet valve is stuck closed; sometimes the float under the tub is jammed by debris. We test the valve with a multimeter before replacing anything - it's a 10-minute diagnosis that prevents a parts-cannon repair.
When a Whirlpool fridge (WRS, WRF) stops making ice, it's the ejector module seven times out of ten - you can often hear the motor straining. Most of the rest is the water inlet valve. Both are among the parts that fail most often, so they're usually on hand and this is typically a one-visit fix. We'd gently suggest skipping the YouTube parts-cannon approach; we meet its victims weekly.

Why Whirlpool Brand Expertise Matters
Whirlpool fills more Bay Area homes than any other brand, from rental units in Daly City to family kitchens in Millbrae and renovations across Mill Valley and San Rafael. We run more Whirlpool calls than any single brand, so we know the failure patterns before the diagnostic cycle finishes. A Cabrio with a worn actuator throws the same UL code whether it is a 2014 WTW7600 in Pacifica or a 2021 WTW8500 in Tiburon, and the fix is identical both times.
Whirlpool is mechanically direct: fewer proprietary parts, standard fasteners, and a layout built for service. A Whirlpool dishwasher inlet valve swaps in about twenty minutes with the unit pulled forward a few inches, where a comparable Bosch needs a full pull-out and side-panel access. That is why most Whirlpool repairs close in a single visit.
Whirlpool parts are easy to source across the Bay Area, so common items are usually on hand and anything we order arrives in a few days. That keeps repair worth it well into a second decade of use: fixing a nine-year-old Cabrio buys several more years for a fraction of a new machine plus delivery and haul-away. We show you that math at the first visit, so you decide on the facts, not the pressure.

“If you want a great communicator and handyman call FixitBay LLC and ask for Andrei. Our building was having issues with a clothes dryer. Andrei was great at providing me scheduling times to choose from and letting me know he was on his way to the building. He ordered parts and then let me know when he would be back to replace. Start to finish it was all done professionally. Thank you!”
“Andrei and his helper are punctual, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. We've used their services multiple times and always been satisfied. In fact, I'm about to schedule another service call.”
“Super responsive even checking in daily while our part was in transit. Andrei was quick to come to our house on a weekend for the diagnostic and then came right after the part came to install. He understood we needed our fridge working and was very helpful”
“Offered timeslots for them to come out within 1 hour of me posting job, came out right on time, Alexei fixed problem and was on his way within 20min! Will use again if ever needed.”
