Meet Andrei

Lead Technician & Owner · CA License #51001 BHGS

Andrei lives in San Francisco and drives to jobs across the Bay Area himself every day. No regional call center, no ticket-routing layer - when you call, you reach the technician who shows up.

Before appliance repair, Andrei was a trained mechanical engineer who worked as a boatswain on Black Sea cargo vessels - eight-month deployments where engine room hydraulics had to be diagnosed and fixed at sea. That experience built the discipline he brings to every repair today: diagnose to root cause, not symptom.

His first client in San Francisco was the landlord upstairs. He fixed his refrigerator, charged him fairly, and explained what failed. Today FixitBay LLC is one of the fastest-growing appliance repair services in the Bay Area - top-rated on Google, Thumbtack and Nextdoor, with Andrei still answering every diagnostic call himself.

On a ship, every component matters. A failed pump means a flooded engine room. That’s why I diagnose every appliance to root cause - “running again” isn’t the same as “fixed.”

— Andrei, FixitBay LLC

BRAND STORY

From the Black Sea to Your Kitchen

Andrei in boatswain uniform on deck of a Black Sea cargo vessel at port at night, before his appliance repair career in the Bay AreaAndrei on the bridge of a Black Sea cargo vessel during transit - eight-month deployments before becoming a Bay Area appliance technician

Before fixing Sub-Zeros in Pacific Heights, Andrei fixed engine room hydraulics on Black Sea cargo vessels.

Eight-month deployments. Heavy weather across the Bosphorus. Mechanical systems that had to keep running because there’s no “try again next Tuesday” at sea - you either solve the problem or the cargo doesn’t reach port.

That discipline carries over. Every appliance repair starts with diagnosis to root cause, not symptom. If a refrigerator runs warm, we don’t replace the obvious thermostat and call it done - we test the compressor relay, vacuum the condenser, check refrigerant pressure. Because “running again” isn’t the same as “fixed.”

ANDREI IN HIS OWN WORDS

How Andrei Works

First I listen carefully to the issue - every detail helps. I schedule a visit to diagnose the problem ($80 diagnostic). If you move forward, that fee goes toward the total cost. I explain what's going on, suggest options, and provide a clear estimate. No pressure, no hidden fees - just honest service and a 180-day warranty on both labor and parts.
A $10,000 Sub-Zero fridge for an SF homeowner - it kept failing right before family meals, and they were stressed. Over two days I diagnosed the issue, replaced the compressor, and got it running like new. When the cool air kicked in, they were so relieved. I was proud to save them from buying a new fridge.
Pricing transparency is the #1 thing. Ask any technician to show you the failed part after the repair - if they hesitate, that tells you something. Second: ask if the diagnostic fee credits to the repair. If it doesn't, you're paying twice. I credit it because the diagnostic is real work - it should be earned, not double-charged. Third: ask if they answer their own phone. Anyone routing through dispatch at three steps removed isn't the person who'll be in your kitchen.
Running an appliance through the failure mode multiple times. A washer pumping water onto the floor - every cycle you try makes the leak worse and the motor controller more likely to fail. A refrigerator running warm - every hour adds compressor wear. If it's clearly broken, unplug it and call. Same-day diagnostic is cheaper than next-week motor replacement.
Two reasons. First - built-in Sub-Zeros, integrated dishwashers, wall ovens don't move. Repair has to come to the kitchen. Second - every storefront overhead translates into higher repair bills. We don't have shop rent to amortize, so the $80 diagnostic stays $80 and parts stay at supplier cost plus reasonable markup.
Sub-Zero and Wolf for high-end built-ins - I trained on the Sub-Zero Group diagnostic checklist specifically. Bosch and Miele for European premium. Whirlpool family (Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir, Amana) for mid-line - they share a lot of parts and failure patterns. Samsung and LG for laundry and modern French-door refrigerators. If your brand isn't on the list - call anyway, most appliances share core components.
