Andrei, owner and lead appliance repair technician of FixitBay LLC

Meet Andrei

Owner & Lead Technician · License #51001 BHGS · San Francisco

I am Andrei, and I trained as a mechanical engineer before I ever opened an appliance. I own FixitBay LLC and I still work in the field, so more often than not the person at your door is me.

Every job comes back to me. I read the diagnosis and the invoice, and I check that we traced the fault to root cause instead of the first symptom. If the work misses that mark, fixing it is on me.

My first customer in San Francisco was the landlord upstairs. I fixed his refrigerator, charged him fairly, and explained what failed. That is still how we work. FixitBay LLC is top-rated on Google and Thumbtack, and a Neighborhood Fave on Nextdoor.

BRAND STORY

From the Black Sea to Your Kitchen

Andrei in boatswain uniform on deck of a Black Sea cargo vessel at port at night, before his appliance repair career in the Bay AreaAndrei on the bridge of a Black Sea cargo vessel during transit, open water through the bridge windows, before his appliance repair career in the Bay Area

FixitBay LLC came out of an engine room. Before appliance repair I sailed as a boatswain on cargo vessels crossing the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.

At sea there is no parts counter and no next Tuesday. You find the real fault with what is on board, or the cargo does not reach port. We built the company on that habit.

A warm refrigerator does not wait, so we keep the diagnostic visit to the same day or the next one in most cases. And when a repair costs more than the machine is worth, you hear that from us before you spend anything. We would rather lose the job than sell you a repair you do not need.

Today FixitBay LLC runs out of San Francisco and covers Marin and the Peninsula. The machines are smaller than a ship’s hydraulics, and the standard for calling something fixed is the one I brought back with me.

ANDREI IN HIS OWN WORDS

How we work

A licensed FixitBay technician, on the visit you booked, working under BHGS license number 51001. I own the company, and every repair comes back to me. That sets one standard for the work: an $80 diagnostic credited to the repair, a written estimate you approve before anyone opens the machine, and 180 days on parts and labor.

First I listen carefully to the issue - every detail helps. I schedule a visit to diagnose the problem ($80 diagnostic). If you move forward, that fee goes toward the total cost. I explain what's going on, suggest options, and provide a clear estimate. No pressure, no hidden fees - just honest service and a 180-day warranty on both labor and parts.

San Francisco, the Peninsula and Marin: 22 cities. West Marin and Stinson Beach fall outside the area, so we do not book visits there. We work seven days a week until 6 PM, there is no after-hours line, and we do not run emergency call-outs. A diagnostic visit lands the same day or the next day in most cases, and the booking calendar shows the earliest window we have before you commit.

A $10,000 Sub-Zero fridge for an SF homeowner - it kept failing right before family meals, and they were stressed. Over two days I diagnosed the issue, replaced the compressor, and got it running like new. When the cool air kicked in, they were so relieved. I was proud to save them from buying a new fridge.

Pricing transparency is the #1 thing. Ask any technician to show you the failed part after the repair - if they hesitate, that tells you something. Second: ask if the diagnostic fee credits to the repair. If it doesn't, you're paying twice. I credit it because the diagnostic is real work - it should be earned, not double-charged. Third: ask whether you can actually talk to a technician before you book. If every answer routes through a call center three steps removed from the repair, you can't get a straight diagnosis over the phone - at FixitBay LLC you reach someone who actually does the work.

Running an appliance through the failure mode multiple times. A washer pumping water onto the floor - every cycle you try makes the leak worse and the motor controller more likely to fail. A refrigerator running warm - every hour adds compressor wear. If it's clearly broken, unplug it and call. Same-day diagnostic is cheaper than next-week motor replacement.

Two reasons. First - built-in Sub-Zeros, integrated dishwashers, wall ovens don't move. Repair has to come to the kitchen. Second - every storefront overhead translates into higher repair bills. We don't have shop rent to amortize, so the $80 diagnostic stays $80 and overhead never inflates your bill.

Sub-Zero and Wolf for high-end built-ins - I trained on the Sub-Zero Group diagnostic checklist specifically. Bosch and Miele for European premium. Whirlpool family (Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir, Amana) for mid-line - they share a lot of parts and failure patterns. Samsung and LG for laundry and modern French-door refrigerators. If your brand isn't on the list - call anyway, most appliances share core components.
